Brief Introduction of the Organization

The Organization

WESS is a non-political, non-profit, non-government, service organization, governed by a Board consisting of professionals with comprehensive knowledge and understanding about social development. The detail functioning of the Board of Governors' is furnished in the Articles of Association.

Legal status

The organization is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The office of the society is located at 11-A, Chaman Housing Scheme, Airport Road Quetta, Balochistan

Project areas

Presently the Society is implementing projects in Loralai, Musakhel, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdulla, Ziarat, Kalat and Chagai districts.

Donors

The projects of society are being funded by different donors and international NGOs mainly Unicef, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Canadian International Development Agency and Oxfam.

Collaboration

The organization is implementing projects in collaboration with line departments of the Government of Balochistan. Presently WESS is collaborating with Local Government & rural development department, including town and municipal committees, Department of Public health engineering, department of education and health department. Apart from collaboration with government institutions the organization is coordinating and linking activities with international NGOs and projects for the social development and relief activities in the province. Presently the organization is closely working with Save the children US, Oxfam UK, UNDP Balochistan Trial District Management Project, relief forum Balochistan and several other national and provincial NGOs.

The Organizational Setup

Establishment

Water Environment and Sanitation Society (WESS) emerged from BRUWAS project, which ended in June 1999, with the goal to contribute in improving the standard of living in the rural parts of Balochistan through delivery of social services and strengthening of institutions at the grass root for improved health and sanitation.

The staff of BRUWAS involved in water and sanitation activities for years have organized themselves into a Non Governmental Organization to continue the delivery of social services in rural parts of Balochistan. A lot of resources have been invested since 1992 to develop approach, methodology and contacts with the beneficiaries. Developing human resources was not an easy task in the remote areas of the province especially the women who have been mobilized and trained to make contacts with the village women for awareness, education and social development.
